Product Description

Optical fibers can be classified in various ways according to their different characteristics. For example, they can be divided into single-mode fibers and multimode fibers according to the mode of light. According to the refractive index, they can be divided into jump-type fibers and graded-index fibers. According to the ITU standard, optical fibers are divided into seven types: G651, G652, G653, G654, G655, G656, and G657, among which G652 and G657 are commonly used.

First of all, what is the ITU standard?
The ITU standard is the International Telecommunication Union standard (ITU for short). The Chinese name of ITU-T is the International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector, which is an organization under the management of the International Telecommunication Union that specializes in formulating international standards related to telecommunications.
In order to make optical fibers have unified international standards, ITU-T has formulated a unified optical fiber standard (G standard). According to ITU-T's recommendations on optical fibers, optical fiber types are divided into seven categories. There are some subcategories in each category.

Mainly used in local area networks, not suitable for long-distance transmission
G652 Dispersion-non-shifted single-mode fiber The zero dispersion wavelength is approximately 1310 nm, but it can also be used in the 1550 nm wavelength range. The most widely used optical fiber
G653 Dispersion shifted fiber The dispersion is at its lowest around 1550nm, thus minimizing the optical loss. Very suitable for long-distance single-channel optical communication systems
G654 Cut-off wavelength shifted fiber The attenuation coefficient at 1550nm is the lowest (about 15% lower than G652, G653, and G655 fibers), so it is called low-loss fiber. The dispersion coefficient is the same as G652. Mainly used for long-distance transmission on the seabed or ground
G655 Non-zero dispersion-shifted fiber The dispersion at 1550nm is close to zero, but not zero G655 was initially used for WDM and long-distance optical cables
G656 Low Slope Non-Zero Dispersion Shifted Fiber The attenuation is low at 1460nm-1625nm, but when the wavelength is less than 1530nm, the dispersion is too low for WDM systems. Ensures transmission performance over a wider wavelength range in DWDM systems
G657 Bending resistant optical fiber Bend loss insensitive optical fiber, the minimum bending radius can reach 5~10mm It is the most commonly used optical cable for FTTH access
